Youm-i-Ali processions banned

LAHORE: The Punjab government on Wednesday banned Youm-i-Ali processions across the province in view of the surge in the coronavirus cases, allowing only indoor mourners gatherings (majalis) under standard operating procedures (SOPs).

As per a handout issued by Punjab home department on Wednesday, in the light of federal interior ministry, Youm-i-Ali processions have been banned in the province.

However, the handout said only indoor majalis were allowed with strict enforcement of the SOPs as decided by the federal government and religious leaders and scholars.

Under the SOPs, mourners will observe social distancing and won’t be seated on carpets during the majalis that won’t last for more than an hour. However, if the flour of the venue is not cemented, carpets can be used.

It says that no elderly person or child will be allowed to attend the majalis and the organisers will be responsible for enforcement of all the SOPs.

The government also ordered strict security of Imambargahs and other premises where events related to Youm-i-Ali would be held.
