Teachers barred from using social media against Sindh University

JAMSHORO: The deans’ committee of the University of Sindh has barred teachers from using social media against the university and tarnishing its image by posting “fake and fabricated news” and leaking confidential documents onto Facebook and WhatsApp.

The committee which met here on Thursday with SU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Fateh Mohammad Burfat in the chair warned faculty members of stern action if they were found violating the ban, said a press release.

It said the meeting decided unanimously to move against the faculty members, who took to Facebook, WhatsApp and other social media platforms to malign the university’s name by indulging in personal bickering and quarrels, posting fake news, levelling allegations against one another and leaking confidential documents.

Dr Burfat said at the meeting that if anyone was found involved in the practice even after the ban, his or her case would be referred to syndicate and other statutory bodies for taking decision.

The action would be taken in accordance with the recommendations of these bodies, he said.

The meeting, which was attended by deans of various faculties including Dr Abdullah Dayo, Dr Hafiz Abdul Ghani Shaikh, Dr Hakim Ali Kanasro, Dr Akhtar Hussain Mughal, Dr Zareen Abbasi, Dr Abdul Sattar Almani, Dr Bashir Rind, Ali Raza Mirani and registrar Ghulam Mohammad Bhutto, said that they would not allow anyone to tarnish the university’s image.
