LAHORE: Ajoka Theatre is staging its play ‘Bari’ (The Acquittal) at the International Performing Arts Festival by the National Academy of Performing Arts on Sunday, says a release.

Written by Ajoka Executive Director Shahid Nadeem, ‘Bari’ highlights the sufferings of four women inmates of a prison cell. They include a woman activist, a mother arrested in place of her wanted son, a dervish woman charged with dancing in a shrine and a young woman who murdered her husband, thrice her age.

The play was produced and directed by Ajoka founding director Madeeha Gauhar to highlight the suffering of women prisoners. It was later adapted for PTV into popular drama serial ‘Neelay Hath’ (Blue Hands) as well.

The cast of the play includes Samina Butt, Nayab Faiza, Kanwal Khan, Eva Majid and Naseem Abass.

LAC: The Lahore Arts Council has planned two-day celebrations for the Pakistan Day. On Friday, a national songs musical programme attracted a large audience at the Alhamra Art Centre.

Young singers sang famous national songs in front of the people from different walks of life. Opening the Pakistan Day celebrations, LAC Executive Director Athar Ali Khan said the youth and people of this country immensely loved Pakistan. The council will hold a number of cultural activities on Saturday, which include an exclusive exhibition of mix media artworks dedicated to the Pakistan Day. There will be a poetry sitting, two theatre plays, one for children, and a puppet show laced with storytelling. The national songs musical evening would again be held at Alhamra on Saturday.

FAIZ FOUNDATION: An evening of piano and poetry celebrating the 10th anniversary of Faiz Foundation Trust and Faiz Ghar titled ‘Tanha Pasa-i-Zindaa’ will be held at Alhamra on March 30.
