Sarabjit’s murder accused acquitted

LAHORE: An additional district and sessions judge on Saturday acquitted two men of the murder of Indian spy Sarabjit Singh in Central Jail, Kot Lakhpat.

The jail police had registered a case against inmates, Amir Sarfraz alias Tamba and Mudassir Munir, for killing Singh in captivity by attacking him with bricks and iron rods in 2013. At the time of the incident, the accused were in jail after their conviction in another criminal case.

The police said Singh was shifted to the Services Hospital in critical condition. They said doctors had stopped the investigating officer from recording statement of Singh due to his bad condition.

AD&SJ Moeen Khokhar, who had been holding a video trial due to security reasons, acquitted the accused for lack of evidence and due to the resiling of prosecution witnesses.
