KARACHI: Mayor Wasim Akhtar said on Wednesday that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation would soon construct 200 bus stops.

He said the bus stops would be equipped with solar lights and they would be maintained on day-to-day basis.

The mayor said this during a briefing on the construction of bus stops at different places on 104 roads and streets under the KMC’s control.

He said people faced a great deal of hardship while waiting for public transport on the roads in sizzling weather as there were no proper bus stops in the city.

The mayor directed the officers concerned to make the design of the proposed bus stops. He also directed them to ensure that no commercial activity such as tuck shops and pan and cigarette cabins would be carried out at the bus stops.

Mr Akhtar said the bus stops set up in 2009 would be replaced by new ones.
