Doctors oppose new criteria for specialisation

PESHAWAR: The doctors qualified from private medical colleges have opposed the new criteria for induction in Part-II of Fellow of College of Physicians and Surgeons (FCPS) and demanded of the Postgraduate Medical Institute to retain the old induction system otherwise they will agitate.

Addressing at a news conference at Peshawar Press Club on Monday, Private Medical Colleges Association provincial president Dr Javed Sattar said that some six year ago, Peshawar High Court had issued orders to follow the old formula for induction in FCPS-II.

He said the induction in FCPS-II was carried out under the previous formula since 2013.

Dr Javed said that selection should be made on the basis of MBBS marks in the light of the superior courts orders.

He said that disparity among the government and private medical students should be ended. He said that students graduated from public sector medical colleges had moved the court against the earlier decision of PHC. After which, he added, the PGMI chalked out a formula and included 30 per cent marks of ETEA test for induction in FCPS-II.

Dr Javed said that later, the court dismissed their petition after an agreement was inked between two groups on a formula for induction in FCPS-II.

He said that graduates of private medical colleges being main stakeholders were not consulted about formation of the new formula.

Flanked by Dr Adil Khan, Dr Tufail and others, Dr Javed said that limit of ETEA test was not more than one year that was clearly mentioned in the scorecard.

He said the new criteria were unacceptable to them. He urged the caretaker chief minister, caretaker minister for health, secretary of health department to take notice of the issue.
