RAWALPINDI: A total number of 19 convicted prisoners were released from central jail Adiala, while the sentences of 117 prisoners were reduced in the wake of remission granted by the president of Pakistan on Eidul Fitr.
According to jail authorities, 41 other prisoners who had been languishing in the jail and had been unable to pay fine were also released after some philanthropists paid their fine money worth Rs677,166.
In addition to it, three other prisoners were released on parole after the Punjab government granted permission as they were kept in the jail due to non-payment of Rs 453,000. Seven other under-trial prisoners were released after their surety money worth Rs180,000 was deposited in the courts by philanthropists.
Philanthropists also paid surety money worth Rs 1,310,166 of 51 other prisoners. Likewise, 208 under trial prisoners were released from the Central jail on bails, the jail authorities said.
