KHAIRPUR: The 197th urs of great Sufi saint Sachal Sarmast will get under way at his shrine in Daraza Sharif on Wednesday (May 30) according to Khairpur Deputy Commissioner Javed Ali Jagirani, who also heads the Sachal Yadgar Committee (SYC).

The DC along with additional DC-I Riaz Hussain Wassan reviewed the arrangements made for the urs celebrations. They told media personnel that foolproof security at the shrine and its routes had been ensured.

On Tuesday, Sajjada Nasheen (custodian) of the shrine will preside over a mystic poetry session during which singers are to recite Sachal Sarmast’s kalam (verses) in their unique style.

Former Sindh chief minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah will formally inaugurate the urs on Wednesday, according to the district administration and Auqaf officials.
