MANSEHRA: The local government department on Friday launched a campaign against dengue in all 194 union councils of Mansehra.

“We have taken this initiative on the orders of the local government department’s director general to prevent the spread of the deadly mosquito-borne virus in the district,” assistant director (local government) Ziaur Rehman Jadoon told the campaign launching ceremony.

Mr Jadoon said workers of the local government department would throw chemicals in stagnant water across village and neighbourhood councils to kill larval mosquitoes.

He said the health department had provided larvicides for the campaign.

“We expect fewer dengue cases in the district compared to previous years due to this campaign,” he said.

Nazim of the Safada village council Basharat Ali Swati, who was also in attendance, said a record number of dengue cases were reported in his village council during the last summer season and therefore, the anti-dengue drive was launched there to kill larval mosquitoes.

He said the health department should also begin ‘fog spray’ in 194 village and neighbourhood councils of the district for more effective results against dengue.

“As the mercury rises, the dengue cases will begin turning to health centres across Mansehra,” he said.

IMRAN DUE ON 26TH: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chairman Imran Khan will visit Hazara division on March 26 to inaugurate the membership campaign in the region.

He was scheduled to visit Hazara on March 22 but the inclement weather delayed the visit.

“Our leader (Imran) will visit Mansehra, Abbottabad and Haripur districts the same day and inaugurate the membership campaign,” PTI district president Babar Saleem Swati told reporters here on Friday.

Mr Swati said the PTI chief would first visit Mansehra to inaugurate the membership campaign, then address the women’s workers and later address a public meeting at Khatm-i-Nabuwwat Chowk.

He said the party chief would get a warm welcome on arrival and would be taken to the venue of public meeting in a big procession.

Mr Swati said the PTI chief would also address a public meeting in Baffa, the hometown of his former wife, Reham Khan.
