Power supply to Lakki villages cut over nonpayment of dues

LAKKI MARWAT: The Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) on Tuesday disconnected power supply to number of villages over nonpayment of dues.

The action was initiated on the directives of executive engineer operations Nader Zaman Kundi after the defaulters failed to clear dues despite issuance of repeated notices.

The localities included Yaseen Manjiwala, Multani Manjiwala, Ghati Michenkhel, Paharkhel Thall, Nawerkhel, Andari, Khyber, Gara Ghazi, Gara Nawaz, Mirbazi, Nawabi, Kiri Hayatkhel, Kiri Malakhel, Gurlangi, Bahawalkhel, Wanda Jandar, Tortala, Nar Deep Chan and Nar Drab.

A Pesco official said the villages and hamlets were located in Lakki, Naurang, Darra Pezu and Serai Gambila subdivisions and that they were linked to the power feeders, including Landiwah-II, Begukhel, Achukhel-I, Khyber, Gurlangi, Scrap-I, Naurang-I and Naurang-III.

He said power consumers of the rural areas did not deposit over Rs19 million leaving the company with no option other than to disconnect power supply.

He said the power supply would be restored to the localities as and when dues were cleared by defaulters.

DRUG PEDDLERS ARRESTED: Local police on Tuesday arrested two narcotics smugglers, including a woman, and seized hashish from them.

A police party of Lakki Marwat police station headed by SHO Javed Khan set up a temporary checking point on Lakki-Mianwali road when DPO Arif Shebaz received information about the possible attempt of narcotics smuggling to Punjab, said an official.

He said the cops stopped a suspected car bound for Mianwali from Bannu for search, and recovered two kg hashish from driver Arifullah, resident of Bannu, he maintained, adding the law enforcers with the help of women constable also seized a plastic bag from a woman onboard the vehicle which contained three kg hashish.

The official said the police arrested the drug traffickers, impounded their car and registered a case against them under relevant sections of law.
