Youth shot dead by police for not stopping motorbike at checkpost

KARACHI: A young man riding a motorcycle was shot dead by police firing here Sunday night, after he allegedly did not stop at a police check post in the area, officials said.

Shaharyar was accompanied by his friend, Tahir Khan, when police asked them to stop in Gizri area of the city. When they did not stop their motorcycle, the policemen fired shots at the fleeing pair, one of which struck Shaharyar on his head, said Gizri SHO Latif.

Two police officials on duty – Altaf and Mudassir – have been taken into custody, said the SHO, adding that a case has been registered on the complaint of Tahir Khan, who was accompanying Shaharyar on the motorcycle.

Shaharyar, who was a resident of Karachi's Landhi area, was first admitted to Jinnah Hospital, where he could not be revived and was pronounced dead Monday morning. His dead body has been handed over to his family.
