POONA: A resolution protesting against the discrimination made by the standing committee of the A.I.N.E.C. in the matter of the basic salary of journalists of English and Indian newspapers as ‘arbitrary, unjust and derogatory to the dignity of the Indian newspapers’ was passed yesterday [Nov 10] at a meeting of the executive committee of the Poona Journalists’ Association. Mr. J.S. Karandikar presided. The committee urged that the A.I.N.E.C. should adopt the recommendations of the standing committee of the Marathi Journalists’ Conference that the basic salary of the working journalist should be Rs.125 in presidency towns and Rs.100 in the mofussils and that notice period for the termination of service should be three months.

[Meanwhile,] experts [in the UK] may be able to piece together a composite picture of the German V-2 rockets from many pieces of the projectiles which have been recovered. Some part of their mechanism has been found and also what is believed to be a part of the rocket casing. Odd looking, twisted pieces of machinery have littered the ground at some points. Some, who have seen the rockets falling, say they look like “Great Balls of Fires”. Others describe them as “Great Black Arrows”. (Dawn, Delhi)
