KPT edge thriller to go top

KARACHI: Junaid Qadir scored a brace as Karachi Port Trust (KPT) overcame Pakistan Air Force (PAF) in a Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) thriller on Thursday and snatch top spot from their opponents in a fledgling table.

Junaid struck the winner in the 70th at the Jinnah Stadium in Islamabad, five minutes after Mohammad Mujahid had levelled matters following the KPT midfielder’s first goal in the 63rd.

In the first-half, Mansoor had given PAF the lead in the 34th but Zahid sent KPT into half-time on level terms with a goal five minutes before the end of the half.

Victory put KPT on 14 points after seven games, one ahead of PAF.

Elsewhere, Pakistan Railways and Baloch FC Quetta played out a 1-1 draw at the Railways Stadium in Lahore with both teams remaining winless after six and seven matches respectively.

Rock-bottom Baloch FC took the lead through Sabir Ali in the 20th minute but Usman Zafar restored parity five minutes later as Railways moved to four points, two ahead of their opponents.
