Journalist Ghulam Tahir passes away

QUETTA: Senior journalist and editor of Weekly Quetta Times, Ghulam Tahir, died here on Friday after protracted illness. He was 86.

Mr Tahir had been indisposed for one and a half years and was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Karachi. He was scheduled to visit Karachi for a check-up on Friday.

He was buried in the Cantonment graveyard in the evening. Journalists, lawyers, politicians and other people attended the funeral.

Mr Tahir started his career in the early 50s as a reporter of Daily Pakistan Times in Sahiwal.

He was jailed for seven years by the military regime of General Ayub Khan for asking General Azam Khan a question about the settlement of refugees from India.

He served as the bureau chief of Pakistan Times for Balochistan till his retirement. After that, he joined Pakistan Observer and also brought out Quetta Times.
