ISLAMABAD: A couple was arrested for stealing gold jewellery from the house of their employer.

The Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) also managed to recover gold ornaments, weighing 80 tolas, from them.

The couple, both natives of Muridke, worked as domestic help at Ashfaq Abbasi’s house.

The employer and his wife had gone abroad, leaving their son, a university student, and the servants behind in their residence in Sector I-8.

Upon their return in April, the servant couple quit their jobs, the CIA said.

One day, when the owners took their ornaments to a goldsmith for some minor fixtures, they discovered that all their gold jewellery was fake.

The employers registered a case with the local police, and nominated their former servants behind the theft.

Once the case was handed over to the CIA, they traced and arrested the couple, who later confessed their crime.

The couple revealed that during six months, when the owners’ son left for university, they gradually replaced all the gold jewellery with artificial ornaments with the help of a worker at a

goldsmith’s shop who manufactured their replicas.

The CIA staff recovered the stolen gold from different parts of Islamabad and Lahore, and efforts are in progress to arrest their accomplices.
