CDGK appoints 18 cricket coaches

KARACHI, July 29 The City District Government Karachi (CDGK), in consultation with the Ministry of Sports, has appointed 18 paid cricket coaches having rich experience in the field aimed at raising teams in all towns of the metropolis.

The list of experts was finalised by a four-member committee headed by Sindh Sports Minister, Dr. Mohammad Ali Shah the other day. Other members include Rehana Saif, Faisal Sabzwari and Khurram Arif.

The coaches have been hired on a monthly emoluments of Rs25,000, to be paid by respective towns.

A four-member selection committee has also been formed in all towns under the coaches which include two former Test cricketers, internationals or PCB certified coaches and a representative of respective town to select a 25-member team by conducting open trials.

They have been directed to focus on players between 16 to 23 years of age during trials. Once selected, the players will be eligible to get a sum of Rs10,000 per month.

Meanwhile, the four-day trials which are underway in all towns are due to conclude on Thursday.

“It's a landmark decision and will go a long way in unearthing budding cricketers of the city in the days to come,” the Sindh Sports Minister told Dawn on Wednesday.
