Wapda clarifies position

Published May 1, 2003

LAHORE, April 30: The Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) on Wednesday issued a press release to, what it called, clarify its position regarding a news published in Dawn on April 28 (Monday) regarding Auditor-General Pakistan’s report about Rs4.6 billion bungling in the authority.

The Wapda press release maintains: “That correct amount of the financial irregularities is Rs2.906 billion, not Rs4.660 billion as claimed in the news.”

“Comments have also been made about performance of internal audit of Wapda. The internal audit regularly generates reports, which are submitted to the authority. The impression given in the news item is thus devoid of factual position.”

DAWN STAND: Dawn’s report was based on the audit report of the Auditor-General of Pakistan, and it has got a copy of the same. Dawn stands by every word of its story as figurative and commentative parts were drawn from the AG’s report.
