CHITRAL, April 30: Employees of the education department have warned the government that they would stop work if more money was not given to run education department offices.

The general secretary of the All Education Employees Federation, Chitral, Nusrat Azad, told Dawn on Wednesday that the district government failed to manage the devolved departments’ finances which would adversely effect their efficiency.

He said that last year the allocation under the head of non- development expenditure of the education department (schools) was Rs2 million which was reduced to just Rs234,000 for the current year.

He said that the allocation was inadequate for running the offices.

He added that the situation would hamper the academic progress in schools subsequently.

When contacted, the planning officer of district planning department (finance), Qazi Sirajul Hassan, said that the district had been allocated Rs27.4 million in the provincial finance commission award and it was not possible to meet the demands of every department.

He said that the district Nazim had requested the provincial finance department to review the award and furnish additional amount to meet the necessary expenses but the request was turned down.
