Fair water distribution demanded

THATTA, April 29: Speakers at a gathering on “Crisis of Water” have urged the government not to politicize the water issue and take concrete measures to ensure judicious distribution of water.

The gathering, which was organized by the Goth Sudhar Tanzim in the Zaur village here on Monday, was attended by agronomists, growers, farmers and social workers.

Speakers, including Ghulam Mustafa Zaur, Syed Akbar Shah, Ejaz Khwaja, Akash Zaur and Kashif Raza, said 6.4 million hectares of land had been rendered barren due to water-logging and salinity.

They said currently 93 per cent of available water was used for agriculture, four per cent for domestic purposes and three per cent for industries.

DIGITAL EXCHANGES: The Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited, Thatta, has recently installed seven digital exchanges in the district, a meeting held in Thatta was told on Monday.
