KARACHI, Dec 9: The police shot a young man to death, in what they claimed an encounter, in Buffer Zone on Sunday.

Three young men were travelling on a motorcycle when the police signalled them to stop in Sector 14-A in Buffer Zone. Instead, the young men tried to speed away, said the area people.

The policemen, who were also on a motorcycle, opened fire on the fleeing suspects. A man, sitting on the rear seat, was wounded in the alleged exchange of fire and fell on the ground. His other associates sped away, the area people said.

However, the police claimed that the young men had fired at them and the police returned the fire resulting in the death of one of the young men. The dead man was identified as Faquir Mohammed, aged 35, hailing from Khairpur.
