NA body summons PFF president

ISLAMABAD, Dec 7 The National Assembly Standing Committee on Sports has summoned Pakistan Football Federation's president Faisal Saleh Hayat over a dispute with a local football association and its performance.

“We have summoned the president of the PFF, Fasial Saleh Hayat, and several other officials of the federation over alleged charges of corruption and clash with the Islamabad Football Association,” Jamshed Ahmed Dasti, chairman of the NA committee told Dawn on Monday.

Dasti had a quarrel with Fasial Saleh Hayat during the last assembly session and they used foul language against each other. The NA speaker later suspended the former for a session and the latter for two days.

“It's a past issue and we will form a sub-committee to look into the crisis prevailing in the football federation,” Dasti said.

“Have my assurances that the PFF issues will be tackled with complete transparency and without any pressure,” he said.

An official of the PFF, when approached, said, “The president and the secretary of the PFF are not in town these days but they will be returning shortly from a foreign commitment.”

The official asserted “We have not received any letter from the Ministry of Sports yet, therefore we cannot comment on the issue.”

Meanwhile, the committee has also summoned the establishment secretary over the slackness on part of the federal government for failing to take disciplinary action against the police officials who failed to perform their duties when the Sri Lankan cricket team was attacked in Lahore on March 3.

Dasti added, “The names of police officials are mentioned in judicial report but I am amazed why the government is hesitating to take disciplinary actions against them.”

The NA committee has been quite vocal over the Sri Lankan cricket team attack issue but it has failed to implement its decisions on several occasions.
