RAWALPINDI, April 27: A labourer died after being buried under a heap of mud while laying a sewerage pipeline near Sabzi Mandi in Islamabad, police said on Sunday.
Qadir Khan, 24, had dug 12-feet deep when all of a sudden a heap of mud fell on him. Quoting eye-witnesses, the police said Qadir Khan was pulled out by his colleagues and shifted to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
ASSAULTED: A woman was raped in Dheri Hassanabad, police said.
S.Bibi told Civil Line police that she had gone to the house of a woman to get her clothes stitched. But, the woman was not available. She said while she was waiting, the accused entered the room and raped her.
The Civil Line police have registered a case against the accused who is yet to be arrested.
VEHICLES STOLEN: A Suzuki car (IDM-4056) was stolen from Margalla area while a Honda motorcycle (RIY-834) was lifted from G-8/2, police said.
HOUSE LOOTED: Burglars broke into a house in G-11/1 sector and looted gold ornaments worth thousands of rupees, police sources told APP on Sunday.
Deputy Director of National Highway Authority (NHA) Waseem Afzal and his family members had gone to Faisalabad four days ago. But, when they returned, they found their belongings scattered. The locks of the drawers had been broken and gold ornaments worth Rs250,000 missing.
The police have registered a case and started investigation.
A REPORTER ADDS: SSP Shahid Nadeem Baloch on Sunday asked the traffic police to crack down on vehicles violating speed limit, emitting smoke and having tinted glass.
He urged the citizens to observe laws and cooperate with the police while dealing with traffic violations. He said speeding was the main cause of accidents. Drivers, he said, could solve this problem by changing their attitudes.
The speed of vehicles plying in the capital will be regularly monitored and strict action taken against those found overspeeding.
The SSP asked the citizens not to use tinted glasses, as this benefited anti-social elements, particularly terrorists.
APP ADDS: The capital police observed a general hold-up throughout the city against anti-social elements on Sunday.
The hold-up was carried out in accordance with the directions of SSP Shahid Nadeem Baloch to keep a check on suspicious people and vehicles from 8:30am to 10:30am.
