HYDERABAD, April 27: The Sindh Chamber of Agriculture (SCA) has advised sugarcane growers to approach the sugar mills for the recovery of their outstanding dues and keep the cane commissioner posted about the progress of payment or non-payment to enable him to take further action in the matter.

At its weekly meeting held here on Sunday under the chairmanship of Syed Qamaruzzaman Shah, the executive committee of the SCA informed the growers that the cane commissioner, Sindh, vide his circular letter dated April 23 had directed all the sugar mills to pay Rs43 per 40kg to the growers.

The growers were informed that the cane commissioner had directed the sugar mills under the Sugar Factory Control Act 1950 to pay quality premium of 50 paisas per 40kg to the growers from 1998-99 to 2002-03 in accordance with the Sindh High Court’s March 27 verdict.
