NEW DELHI, Dec 7: The interior minister-designate of Afghanistan’s new interim administration said on Friday that differences within the Northern Alliance over the new cabinet were minor and would be ironed out.

“I believe nobody will be opposed to the transition arrangement reached in Bonn,” Yunis Qanuni said while talking to reporters.

“Small things can be settled,” he said about the differences arising from the exclusion of former president Burhannudin Rabbani from the new administration.

Asked about the boycott of the new administration by Uzbek warlord Abdul Rashid Dostum, Qanuni said: “General Dostum has not gone out from our alliance.”

The new interim authority frayed at the edges just a day after its creation on Thursday when two powerful leaders, Rashid Dostum and Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, condemned the allocation of ministries.—Reuters
