KARACHI, Aug 5 Girl students once again maintained their supremacy over boys in the Higher Secondary Certificate Part-II, Science (Pre-Medical) group annual examinations 2009, as they not only bagged all three of the top positions but their pass percentage was also 14.88 higher than that of their male counterparts.

The results declared on Wednesday by the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) showed the overall pass percentage of all candidates (both the girls and boys) was 51.71, which is almost the same as that of last year's batch (51.32 per cent).

However, the overall pass percentage of girls stood at 54.80, as compared to boys, whose overall pass percentage remained at 39.92.

It was for the first time that the BIEK declared the results of the examinations one month and 10 days ahead of the deadline fixed for it by the Sindh education department's steering committee.

Girls also outclassed boys in getting the maximum number of A-1 grades, as of the total 538 candidates (both girls and boys) who obtained A-1 grades in the exams, girls bagged as many as 441 A-1 grades while boys secured 97.

Students belonging to BAMM PECHS Govt College for Women clinched all of the first three positions in the examination.

Anoosha Asma (Roll No. 540831), daughter of Muhammad Waseem, topped the examination by securing 974 (88.54 per cent) out of a total 1,100 marks; Afaf Anis (Roll No. 540826), daughter of Muhammad Anis, clinched second position with 966 (87.81 per cent) marks while Amber Waqar (Roll No. 540827), daughter of Syed Waqar Ahmed, got third position with 963 (87.54 per cent) marks.

Statistics of the results released by the BIEK showed that of the total 8,257 candidates (1,325 boys and 6,932 girls) who were declared successful, in all 538 (3.37 per cent) candidates (97 - 2.92pc boys and 441 - 3.49pc girls) got A-1 grades; 2,190 (3.71pc) candidates (329 - 9.91pc boys and 1861 - 14.71 girls) secured A grades; 2,724 (17.06pc) candidates (377 - 11.36pc boys and 2,347 - 18.55pc girls) obtained B grades; 2,197 (13.76pc) candidates (329 - 9.91pc boys and 1,868 - 14.77pc girls) got C grades; 596 (3.73pc) candidates (185 - 5.57pc boys and 411 - 3.25pc girls) secured D grades while 12 (0.08pc) candidates (eight - 0.24pc boys and four - 0.03pc girls) got E grades.

In all 15,969 candidates (3,319 boys and 12,650 girls) appeared in the exam and of them 8,257 (1,325 boys and 6,932 girls) were declared to have passed in different grades.
