PESHAWAR, April 22: Some 50 stalls were set up on the premises of the Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research to mark its golden jubilee celebrations here on Tuesday.
Industrialists and scientists from Lahore, Rawalpindi, Quetta and Karachi put on display different locally-manufactured items at the exhibition.
“The purpose is to inform people about the importance of locally available resources and their development into products for human consumption on competitive rates,” said Dr Mohammad Tariq, director of the Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research.
He said local scientists were able to develop certain plants into medicines that were effective as well as cheaper compared to those marketed by multinational companies. Pakistan, he said, was rich in plants that have medicinal properties and could be used for treatment of various diseases.
Various machines were also displayed. Isolated Perfusion Rabbit, a British machine used to gauge the impact of any medicine on heart, attracted attention of most of visitors.
