MULTAN, Dec 7: The Pakistan Seraiki Party has vowed to press the government for introducing Seraiki language as medium of instruction at the primary education level.

This was decided at a two-day meeting of the party’s central committee concluded here on Friday with PSP chief Taj Muhammad Langah in the chair.

The committee, taking notice of a news that the government was taking steps to introduce Punjabi as medium of instruction at the primary education level, said the Seraiki should also be given as much importance as the Punjabi enjoyed.

It warned that if the government showed double standards in this regard, the Seraiki party would be justified to take any ‘step’ by taking the Seraiki people into confidence. “The PSP will soon chalk out a strategy in this regard to draw attention of the government and people towards the issue,” a declaration of the meeting said.

The other declarations are: the government should take steps to cope with the problem of water shortage; support price of wheat be increased; problems of cotton and sugarcane growers be redressed; and interest-fee loans be advanced to growers.

The party supported the construction of greater Thal canal and demanded that the canals of Rajanpur be provided water from Kitchi Canal. Instead of elevating Mangla Dam, the proposed Sanjwal dam be built between Hasanabdal and Attock. All the previous water accords between the provinces should be cancelled and a new commission constituted having representation of the Seraiki people. And a television station be established in Seraiki speaking areas.

It also demanded that a 25 per cent share should be allocated in employment quota in all the government departments.
