JHANG, Dec 7: A Lashkar-i-Jhangvi terrorist, carrying Rs0.5 million headmoney, and a constable were injured on Friday in a brief shootout on the Jhang-Muddoki Road, some 10 km from here.
Jhang Saddar police later succeeded in arresting the accused.
Two armed motorcyclists snatched a motorcycle (JGB 2088) from near the Government Girls College, Jhang, at 8.00 am. After committing the crime, one of the outlaws, later identified as Kashif alias Kashi ‘Bara Usman’, fled towards the Jhang-Muddoki Road. Meanwhile, the matter was reported to the police who immediately aired the message to police mobiles and pickets. A mobile party of Jhang Saddar police spotted a motorcyclist heading towards Muddoki railway station. The motorcycle of the terrorist slipped and he took refuge in nearby fields when the police went after him. He then opened fire on police, injuring constable Muhammad Ilyas. Police also returned the fire and one of the bullets hit in terrorist’s chest, injuring him seriously. Later, police arrested him and rushed him to the local DHQ Hospital where was operated upon.
After regaining his conscious, he disclosed his identity as Kashif alias Kashi ‘Bara Usman’ of Kot Radha, Gujranwala district.
Police sources confirmed the terrorist had carried the headmoney of Rs0.5 million. He was wanted by police of several districts in a number of sectarian cases. The terrorist also gave out that he along with his companions had rented a house in Satellite Town, Jhang. They said that they had planned to commit an act of terrorism on Youm-i-Ali in Jhang city.
