ISLAMABAD, Dec 7: Islamabad Electric Supply Company (Iesco) was bound to inform the Supreme Court (SC) about establishing its grid station between sectors F-6 and F-7 four weeks before the commissioning of the construction work, the orders of the apex court said.

These orders were issued by the court in 1992 when the construction of the grid station was challenged by the residents of the area and the Capital Development Authority (CDA), which termed it hazardous to the human life.

The court orders obtained by Dawn on Friday said: “It was held by this honourable court that while planning and deciding to construct the grid station, Wapda and the government departments acted in routine manner without taking into consideration the latest research and planning to asses whether the construction of grid stations could be harmful for the human health or not.”

It further said Wapda would submit all the plans, schemes and relevant documents to the National Engineering Services of Pakistan to conduct a comprehensive study.

However, the CDA claimed that the Iesco had not submitted any plan to it for seeking approval for establishing the grid station.

“If the documents and the plan of the grid station have not been approved by the CDA, then how these documents are considered valid and approved”, an Authority official said.

He said the Iesco had violated the apex court’s order by not intimating the court about the construction of the grid station four week before the start of the work.

On the other hand, the residents of the area told Dawn that they would again file an application before the SC within next two or three days against the construction of the grid station.
