PESHAWAR, April 20: Despite waiving of admission and monthly fees many public sector schools have yet to comply with the provincial government order and the schools’ managements are charging fees from their students.

In a press release, the provincial president of the National Labour Federation of Pakistan, Mr Abu Saeed Jaferi, said here on Sunday that the headmistress of the Government Girls High School, Civil Quarter, was still collecting tuition fees from the students.

He said the school administration had changed the uniform of the school and those students who were not attending school in the newly-prescribed uniform were being fined Rs10 per day.

The children of most of the labourers, he said, studied in the government schools and they could not afford to pay fees and new uniforms. They felt relief when provincial government announced free education and implemented this through a notification few days ago but in some schools the rule is not being implemented by the principals.

Mr Jaferi said the teachers of the Government Girls Primary School, Railway Quarter, were issuing admission form for Rs20 as against the actual amount of 10 paisa for primary class.

The NLF demanded of the government to check the violation of the government decision in all the government schools and stop the autocratic activities of the principals of the schools.

It said the government should not only announce such rules but it should make sure that the decision of the government is implemented.
