If one was to take into account the words of Ted DiBiase aka the Million Dollar Man, then everybody sure has a price. Keeping true to this adage, the characters in Daam carry out deeds and deals that make or break the lives or rather the love lives of those around them to be more precise.

The play begins with Zahra (Sanam Baloch) winning a speech competition while her best friend Maleeha (Amina Shiekh) comes in second place who gladly accepts that the former is better than her. Both girls are medical students and though they hail from completely different backgrounds, the two are happy in each others company.

Then there is the ego maniac Fizza (Sanam Saeed) and her brother Yasir (Faisal Shah), who is engaged to Maleeha. Fizza, with her acerbic nature tends to create misunderstandings just to satisfy her ego while Yasir in typical male fashion tends to get incited by whatever his sister feeds him. In between, there is Maleeha's sister Asma (Nimra Bucha) who goes out of the way to make sure that there is food on the table.

Though Maleeha and Zahra are very close to each other, they are oblivious to the fact that Junaid (Adeel Hussain), Maleeha's elder brother is falling for Zahra. Once things come out in the open, Maleeha hits the roof. In order to prevent any union between Junaid and Zahra, she goes to extremes, all the while causing pain to the two. More than the rich poor divide, it's the jealousy in a woman's heart that forms the crux of this story.

Daam is a realistic contrast between the lives of the rich and the poor, the entire thought process that makes them see and do the things in a certain manner given their socio-economic backgrounds.

A 7th Sky Entertainment production managed by Abdullah Kadwani and Humayun Saeed, Daam is written by Umera Ahmed and directed by Mehreen Jabbar. With being an earlier hit produced by this trio, Daam seems to be Doraha following suit and is being followed closely by viewers. At time the serial moves painfully slow, however, it is the acting that keeps one hooked. The characters are well-etched and the actors chosen to play them do justice to their roles.

Daam happens to be Sanam Baloch's outing in a major role and the girl does act well. From being a simple girl who aims to bring about a change in the lives around her to being forced to make a decision that will change her life drastically, Sanam carries herself well and after Doraha, once again comes up with a stellar performance.

In a similar vein, Amina acts nicely too and is one of those rare models who can emote well as and when required. Though in the first few episodes her role has been of a positive nature, it would be worth the wait to see how she does a diatribe and gets all negative. Yet another performance to watch out for is that of Shahid Naqvi who plays the character of Hadayatullah (Zahra's father). A bitter and ego centric man with most of his failures arising due to his lack of initiative, Naqvi gets well into the character and makes you want to hate him every single minute he is on screen.

However, the underdog here is Nimra Bucha as Asma. Though Umera has a penchant for making her female characters as spineless as possible, here, despite being in a tough position, Asma faces all odds bravely but then again she is human and has a breaking point. From putting up with a good for nothing father to facing harassment at work and in the meanwhile mourning the loss of love, the scene where she breaks down in the middle of the night was heartbreaking. The character that she portrays is not an easy one but Nimra does it so well that it's hard to imagine that this is her first performance on TV.
