Work on gas supply scheme resumes

KOHAT, Oct 2: The Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Ltd has started work on the much-awaited gas supply scheme to the posh KDA Township.

The scheme, worth Rs20 million, had been jeopardized following a row between the KDA Township and the Sui Gas authorities over the payment of cost of the project. The Sui Gas department was demanding full payment whereas the KDA Township had expressed its inability to pay in full and had informed the officials that they had not collected the gas developing charges from the residents at the time of allotment of plots.

However, after several rounds of talks the Sui Gas authorities agreed to provide the facility to the residents of sectors I, II, IV, V and X only. Later, they extended the facility to the remaining five sectors and the Phase II after full payment was made by the KDA Town authorities.

The deputy director of KDA Township, Khan Beg, while talking to Dawn on Tuesday said that they had deposited Rs9.2 million against the demand of Rs20 million made by the Sui gas authorities and assured them that the rest of the amount would be paid after it was collected from the residents.
