HYDERABAD, April 15: A delegation of the Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association held a meeting with the Sindh chief secretary, the secretary for education and other officials in Karachi the other day to discuss problems confronting college teachers.

The delegation comprised Prof Liaquat Aziz, Prof Syed Riaz Ahsan, Prof Mohammad Siddiq Unnar and others.

Prof Liaquat Aziz told Dawn here on Tuesday that it was decided that the summary of promotions from grade 17 to 18 of lecturers who had been cleared by the Departmental Promotion Committee would be prepared and Chief Secretary K. B. Rind would get it approved from the Sindh chief minister for issuance of posting orders.

The meeting also decided that on the pattern of Karachi, separate EDOs for colleges would be appointed in Hyderabad and Sukkur.

Vacant posts of principals would be filled without delay. The secretary for education would meet the Sindh Public Service Commission chairman for holding early interviews of candidates to fill vacant posts of lecturers, the meeting further decided.

It was agreed at the meeting that promotion cases of grade 18, 19 and grade 20 college teachers would soon be finalized.

In the next budget, funds would be allocated for purchase of computers, scientific equipment and furniture. The Sindh Textbook Board would be asked to prepare syllabus for teaching Sindhi to non-Sindhi students from the next academic year, the meeting resolved.

It was agreed that the chief secretary and the secretary for education would hold monthly meetings with SPLA representatives to resolve problems of college teachers.
