Butchers ransack DDOR office

Published September 5, 2009

SHEIKHUPURA, Sept 4 A number of butchers ransacked the office of DDOR Hamid Malhi in Sharaqpur on Friday.

The butchers, according to reports, reacted to a raid by the DDOR and his subordinates at their shops and arrests of some of them for selling unhygienic beef and mutton.

The police on the directions of the DDOR registered cases against the butchers and took some of them into custody.

A group of butchers, led by the butcher association president, reacted angrily to the drive and ransacked the DDOR's office. “We are selling beef and mutton approved by the veterinary doctors and other staff of the department.”

Mr Malhi told Dawn that the drive against substandard meat and overcharging by butchers was going on in line with the directions of the government.
