ISLAMABAD, Feb 19 Among the 43 cantonment boards in the country, the Lahore Cantonment Board tops in illegal occupation of its property and is involved in 808 cases about its land being under unlawful possession.

Defence Minister Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar informed the National Assembly in a written reply to a question raised by Nighat Parveen of the PML-N that the Lahore Cantonment Board was facing maximum number of illegal occupation of its land, followed by Sialkot with 461 cases and Peshawar with 149.

The minister said notices had been issued to illegal occupants in Lahore and army authorities were requested to get the land vacated.

In Sialkot, where the encroachments were in the form of extended boundary walls, platforms and G.I. shades, notices for removal had already been served.

The minister said similar encroachments had also been reported in Peshawar and the authorities concerned were taking necessary action.

The Hyderabad board has recorded 33 illegal occupation and officials have sent notices to illegal occupants.

In Risalpur, notices have been issued to 14 cases of illegal occupants.

In the vicinity of Malir Cantonment Board, two cases of land grabbing have been reported and officials have taken legal action.

The Rawalpindi Cantonment Board has noticed five cases of encroachments and notices have been served on the encroachers.

The Karachi Cantonment Board is facing two cases of illegal occupation of its property.

In one case, a place known as a slaughter house is under occupation of Mr Sadiq Hussain and the Sindh High Court is hearing the case.

In the second case, the Karachi board claims that the Hockey Club of Pakistan has illegally occupied its property and it is trying to sort out the matter.
