Shaheen clinch trophy

LAHORE, Dec 4: Shaheen Club won the Lahore Ramazan-ul-Mubarak Inter-club hockey tournament, beating Nobles Club 2-1 in the final at the National Hockey Stadium Tuesday.

Despite having the services of international Khawaja Junaid, Mohammad Sarwar, Saqlain and Salman Akbar, Shaheen Club could not score any goal in the first half. All the three goals were scored in the second session of play.

Nobles Club took the lead first through centre-half Zahid Shafique who converted a penalty-corner in the 36th minute.

Six minutes later, Shaheen Club scored the equaliser through centre-forward Mohammad Sarwar who crowned a field effort.

Mounting pressure on the rivals, Shaheen Club struck their second goal through outside-right Yasir Khurshid Azam in the 53rd minute to make the tally.

Zahid Shafique of the Nobles Club was declared as Man-of-the-Final.
