HYDERABAD, April 6: Activists of the Sindh Green Development Organization (SGDO) held a token hunger strike outside the press club on Sunday to protest against the cutting of trees in the Kachho area of Dadu.

Talking to newsmen, the leaders of the organization — Hassan Brohi, Shai Berhamani, Akbar Narejo, and Inayatullah Khoso — alleged that the entire Kachho area had been denuded due to the indiscriminate cutting of trees, and added that as a result of this fatal diseases were spreading in the area.

They pointed out that trees were the sanctuaries for the livestock, and added that the main reason for drought in the Kachho area was deforestation.

They accused the forest officers of their connivance with the enemies of the society who were engaged in deforestation.

They appealed to the prime minister, the chief minister, Sindh, and the secretary, Environment, to take notice of the crime and stop the illegal cutting of trees in the Kachho area.
