KARACHI, April 2: A youth was stabbed to death by a relative of his in Ratantalao in the Preedy police limits on Wednesday morning.

Police said Imran Thapa, 24, was sitting along with his friends Kashan and Afzal in Ratantalao near Frere Market when he was attacked by Taj with a dagger following an exchange of hot words. Taj fled the scene while Imran died on the spot.

Some personal dispute is supposed to form the background of the incident. Imran and Taj both were butchers, but Imran had recently started selling books.

According to police, Imran had killed his elder brother Aslam some two and a half years back, but the matter was resolved when the family pardoned him.

On information, police said, they raided a house in Gulistan-i-Johar and arrested Taj Mohammad, who was booked in the FIR 39/2003 under section 302 of the PPC.

The killing caused tension in the area where shops and markets remained closed on Wednesday. Akbar Market and Urdu Bazaar were also closed. However, police with the help of area notables managed to get some of the shops opened in Akbar Market and Frere Market.

The shops in Urdu Bazaar and other bookstores in the area remained closed throughout the day. Police intensified patrolling and increased deployment in the area to maintain law and order, a police official said.

A woman was beaten to death by her husband in her home in the Korangi Industrial Area. Police said Abdul Jabbar, brother of Bibi Khatoon, 22, came home and found his sister dead.

Jabbar, who lived with his sister, told police that he suspected that his brother-in-law, Ali Hasan, was the murderer as he had frequent quarrels with his wife.

Ali Hasan was missing. Police said Bibi was hit in the head with a blunt weapon. SUICIDE: Two men committed suicide on Wednesday.

Police said Mohammad Saleem, 40, sprinkled kerosene on himself and set himself on fire at his home in Aligarh Colony, Orangi Town. He died on the spot.

A man committed suicide at his home in Bhittai Colony. Police said Nisar Ahmed hanged himself in his room in the police limits of Ibrahim Hyderi. The body was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for autopsy. The reason for the suicide could not be ascertained immediately.
