RAWALPINDI, March 31: The campaign launched by the capital police against 905 proclaimed offenders (POs) and 247 court absconders this year reflects unsatisfactory performance.

Only four of the proclaimed offenders have been arrested so far, while all court absconders are still at large.

A senior capital police official said the campaign against proclaimed offenders and absconders was still underway, but the outcome was very slow.

While citing the reason behind the swelling up of police ‘wanted’ list, he said: “The rise in the figure was due to crime situation and shifting of people involved in cases to other areas. Most of those released from jails on bail, move to other areas due to which police face difficulties in arresting them.”

According to statistics collected from the police, the number of proclaimed offenders and court absconders to be arrested by different police stations is Aabpara police, 71, 15; Kohsar police, 114, 23; Margalla police, 190, 30; I-9 Industrial area police, 121, 30; Tarnol police, 37, 65; Golra police, 121, 33; Secretariat police, 100, 29; Bharakahu police, 32, 12; Sihala police, 98, 14.

In addition to this, eight proclaimed offenders have to be arrested by the women police, however, there is no court absconder on their list. Meanwhile, secretariat police have arrested one proclaimed offender, while Kohsar police claim to have arrested three.

Meanwhile, a police source said none of the proclaimed offenders and court absconders had been reported dead.
