Four allied soldiers killed

AS SAYLIYA CAMP, March 30: Three US troops were killed and a fourth was injured when a Marine helicopter crashed in southern Iraq, a spokesman at the US Central Command war headquarters said on Sunday.

The spokesman said the helicopter was not brought down by hostile fire but could not provide any further information, such as the exact location or the time of the incident.

UK SOLDIER: A British soldier has been killed in action near the southern Iraqi city of Basra, a Ministry of Defence spokeswoman said on Sunday.

Reporter David Sharrock from The Times newspaper said in pooled copy from the Gulf the soldier was killed after a launch carrying British Royal Marines came under grenade attack and gunfire during a patrol of waterways on the Faw peninsula.—Reuters
