ISLAMABAD, March 30: A group of prayer leaders are trying to grab land, allotted for Children Park in Model Town Humak Zimni, for building a mosque despite the fact that already six mosques exist in the area.

These prayer leaders, who a few years ago had constructed a mosque on a site meant for a park and managed to consolidate their position with the cooperation of the CDA officials and some locals, are now eying another plot.

The group, after getting an application for the plot “marked” to the CDA by the then interior minister, Moinuddin Haider, built a structure on the site without getting any permission. The structure was, however, demolished by the residents who argued that there was no need for any other mosque.

The residents opposed the move and informed the police station of the area. The president of the Mohalla Committee, Khawaja Bashir, in his application to the area SHO, said the park site was being encroached. He said there was no dearth of mosques, but the group of land grabbers, in the garb of prayer leaders, wanted to ensure that another person got the job.

The residents have demanded of the CDA chairman to look into the matter as the existing mosques were empty, and with the construction of another mosque, the children would be denied of a playing facility.
