PESHAWAR, March 30: Sailab Mehsud and Hayatullah Khan were elected the president and general secretary, respectively, of the Tribal Union of Journalists in the annual election held on Sunday.

The other office-bearers elected are: Senior Vice-President Haji Habibullah; vice-presidents, Aurangzeb Afridi and Taj Mohammad Hairan; Deputy General Secretary Iqbal Hussain; Joint Secretary Rehmat Gul  Afridi, Finance Secretary Abdul Wahab, Press Secretary Mohammad Jamil, Coordination Secretary Munawar Afridi, Office Secretary Hassan Mahmud Orakzai and advisers, Ahmad Jan Siddiqui and Saeeduz Zaman Afridi.

The union decided to hold a rally on Monday from Peshawar Press Club to Governor’s House against the US-led attack on Iraq, says a press release. The units were directed to hold demonstrations in every tribal agency on April 6.

The president asked the government to release the editor-in-chief of The Frontier Post, Rehmat Shah Afridi. He said that till his release, Mr Afridi should be shifted to Peshawar prison from Punjab.
