Javed’s 60 takes team in semis

KARACHI, Dec 2: Zultec joined Paragon Construction in the semi-final of the Zultec Ramazan Invitational cricket tournament after outclassing Parco by 60 runs here on Sunday at the PCB regional academy ground.

This smashing victory enabled Zultec secure four points in the table along with Paragon Construction as both teams booked their berths amongst the last four in the tournament.

Batting first Zultec scored 180 for six wickets in the 20 allotted overs. Openers Nadim Tariq (39) from 25 balls and Hanif ur Rehman (26) off 20 deliveries, set a blazing pace and with Mohammad Javed slamming three fours and three sixes in his blistering knock of 60 from 57 balls and left-hander Sohail Mehdi joining the fray with 21, Zultec were ensured with a winning score.

Chasing 181 runs for victory, Parco lost opener Tony, before he cold open his account and Sohail Mehdi flighting his left-arm spinners for good measure picked up two quick wickets in his very first over.

Pervaiz gave the Parco team a glimpse of a chance by cracking five fours and two sixes in his hard hitting knock of 56 runs from 60 deliveries. But when he was forced to retire hurt, the writing was on the wall.

Sohail Mehdi bowling a steady line and length hauled up 2/23 and with skipper Mustansar Ali Khan matching his performance with 2/28, Parco were restricted to 120 for 7 to lose the match by 60 runs.
