GUJRANWALA, March 28: The heirs of a minor girl, who died after inhaling furnace emissions, demonstrated on the Muslim Road against the furnace owners here on Friday.

Two-year-old Saira died after inhaling poisonous smoke while playing in the courtyard of her house some two days ago.

Continuing their protest on Friday, the deceased’s family and scores of residents of the locality blocked traffic on the Muslim Road by burning tyres. The protesters marched on the GT Road, Sialkot Road, Hospital Road, Civil Lines, Satellite Town and Model Town, chanting slogans against the furnace owners.

They also protested outside the offices of some senior district government officials, demanding that those responsible for the minor’s death should be brought to book. They said the district administration and police had failed to take action against the furnace owners.

The protesters dispersed peacefully on the senior police officers’ assurance that stern action would be taken against the accused.
