GUJRANWALA, March 28: The medical officer in charge of the Ghakkhar rural health centre was beaten up allegedly by the men of an MPA for not attending to the patients and humiliating the MPA on Friday.

Reports said MPA Mian Mazhar Javed received complaints that Dr Mohammed Akram, an eye specialist, was running his private clinic on the GT Road in Ghakkhar Town and consequently remained absent from the rural health centre.

The MPA paid a surprise visit to the centre at about 11:30am and found its main gate locked from inside. He had to wait for some time to get it opened. Later, the MPA asked the medical officer to always keep the main gate opened besides ensuring his presence in his office. But the MO reportedly humiliated the MPA, saying he was not his boss.

In the meantime, the men of the MPA entered the office and manhandled the doctor. However, the paramedical staff and some patients came to his rescue.

Later, the MPA informed the executive district officer (health) about the attitude of the medical officer.

On the other hand, the paramedical staff and doctors of the Ghakkhar health centre have threatened that they will go on strike if a case was not registered against the MPA and his men.
