KARACHI, March 28: Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ibad has called for enforcement of laws to curb the use of banned nets for fishing.

At a briefing held at the Governor’s House, the governor was apprised of the problems faced by the Sindh Fisheries Department regarding implementation of laws to curb the use of banned nets in the territorial waters of Sindh.

The governor constituted a committee of stake-holders to examine and submit recommendations regarding the action plan for implementation of laws in letter and spirit within 30 days.

The committee consists of the director general Marine Fisheries Department, the vice-chairman Fishermen Cooperative Society, one nominee of the police, the chairman Pakistan Seafood Group Industries Association, two nominees of the Governor’s House, the director fisheries Sindh, research and development Karachi. It was also decided to form a committee to submit recommendations with regard to the time period of the ban to be imposed on the catching of crabs.—APP
