GILGIT, Dec 2: The Northern Areas Legislative Council (NALC) meeting reviewed the progress on a number of ongoing water, power, and road projects in the areas. Fida Muhammad Nashad, Deputy Executive, presided over the meeting.
The secretary works department, Brigadier Masroor Abbasi, informed the meeting about the progress on two-megawatt hydro project at Jaglote Gah.
Mr Abbasi said the Chinese engineers who were working on the project would soon come back to Pakistan to resume work on it.
The meeting also reviewed the widening and upgrading of the Shaheed-e-Millat Road before the visit of President Musharraf expected in the first week of December or January.
During the meeting Northern Areas Chief Secretary Fazal Durrani ordered an inquiry into a road constructed in the Nagar Subdivision due to a number of complaints regarding the irregularities in the project. He directed that the the report must be submitted within a week.
The participants were also briefed about the technical flaws in the construction of Thalichi Bridge at the KKH that linked Astore areas with the other parts.
The secretary works informed the participants that two experts from the National Highway Authority (NHA) would soon visit Northern Areas to look into the Thalichi Bridge matter.
He also stated that the Gilgit Greater Water Scheme would be completed in the first week of December that would supply potable water to over 50,000 denizens of the city.
The advisers to the NALC, Imran Nadeem, Sheikh Ghulam Haider Najfi, Saifur Rahman Khan and all the departmental secretaries of Northern Areas took part in the review session and provided their input regarding the developmental projects.
