Published March 28, 2003

KARACHI, March 27: Members of the Sindh assembly have been issued “guidance letters” on spending the Rs5 million fund allocated to each MPA for development schemes.

According to the letters, the fund allocated to each MPA could be spent on provision of electricity and gas to villages and towns, construction of buildings for shelterless schools and additional class rooms in primary and secondary schools, provision of furniture to these schools, repair of roads, maintenance of sewerage and provision of equipment and machinery for hospitals.

Besides, the fund can be spent on expeditious completion of development schemes, including those of annual development programme 2002-03, and those lying incomplete due to lack of funds.

The letters were issued by the additional chief secretary, Sindh, department of planning and development, Ghulam Sarwar Khero. —PPI
