Three held after anti-Hesco demo

LARKANA, March 26: The police on Wednesday arrested a councillor and two Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM) activists who were nominated in an FIR among at least 100 others for holding a demonstration and breaking 800 meters.

The demonstration was held against inflated and incorrect power bills on Monday.

Those arrested were councillor Rasheed Qureshi and JSQM’s Serwar Mirani and Manzoor Mirani.

The FIR was registered on the complaint of the SDO, Hesco, Zameer Ahmad Bugti.

Abdul Rasheed Qureshi, Mohammad Aslam Bhutto, Mohammad Ali Jeho, Abdul Hameed Soomro, Abdul Ghafoor Kori, Zulfikar Mahar, Manzoor Mahar, Khadim Hussain Kori, Yaroo Kori and Ghulam Serwar Mirbahar are among those nominated in the FIR.

The power supply was disconnected to the town by Hesco on the day the demonstration was held.

The Hesco chief went to Larkana and held talks with District Nazim Khurshid Ahmad Junijo, Naudero union council Nazim Nisar Bhutto and residents after the protesters smashed over 800 meters.

The district Nazim on Wednesday went to Naudero and met area people who demanded registration of an FIR against Wapda authorities concerned, release of the three arrested people and restoration of power supply to the town.

Hesco sources have said power supply will be restored to the town after the damages are recovered. On the call of the JSQM, strike was observed in the town on Wednesday.
