DADU, March 26: The People’s Party Parliamentarians will launch a district-wide campaign against multinational oil and gas exploration companies to protest against their reluctance to hire local people, district president of the PPP MNA Rafique Ahmed Jamali said.
Criticizing the oil and gas exploration companies, including Lasmo and BHP, the People’s Party Parliamentarians leader complained that these companies had not been appointing local people for the past seven years.
Speaking at a public meeting here, he said that the PPP legislators were trying to do away with the Legal Framework Order, adding that it was not part of the Constitution.
He said that the government had failed to provide basic facilities like education, roads, hospital and fresh water, to the people of remote areas.
He also condemned the US-led attack on Iraq.
DEMONSTRATION: A large number of people, including activists of non-governmental organizations, on Wednesday staged a demonstration outside the local press club to protest against issuance of inflated gas bills.
Demonstrators were carrying banners and placards and were raising slogans against the local SSGC officials.
CONTRACTORS: A large number of government contractors belonging to the road department on Wednesday staged a demonstration outside the local press club.
Protesters were led by the district general secretary of the Government Contractors Association, Ghulam Shabbir Soomro and Ghulam Abbas Kabooro.
